Johnny's Harra's new website www.johnnyharrathelegend.com says he is back with a vengence and is taking bookings again! It feels like an eternity since we had him performing regularly; and apart from the odd TV appearance here and there in the 90s on shows like Bill Bixby's The Elvis Conspiracy, it was like he had dropped off the planet.
It's great to have him back. Apparently the reason he now struggles so much with his weight is he had to put so much on for This Is Elvis that he never quite managed to lose it again. I'm sure that he is the only ETA who has been upstairs at Graceland (unless you count Nic Cage
) I suppose he's getting on a bit now- he must be at least 60, but one of his biggest contempories Rick Saucedo is still going strong and singing better than ever! These first-generation ETAs have a sort of aura about them don't they? I suppose it's because they were around at a huge point in history: Before Elvis and After Elvis- not only around but performing when Elvis was still alive! I wonder what it would have been like to perform as Elvis in the weeks and months after his death when people were still in shock and freshly mourning his passing?
These early or first-generation ETAs I will always be in awe of because they are a direct link to that time. That's why I'm such a big supporter of my friend Liberty Mounten who came on the scene slightly later but who also qualifies for Legendary status. Not only did he see Elvis in concert in 1970 but he has brought Elvis to just about every country in the world and is surely the most travelled ETA ever.
Anyway, I always tend to go off-topic a bit- Johnny's new website is online and I for one would love to see him live.
