ALL SHOOK UP: Dylan Bowen25 November 2008
Wigan Evening Post
A pint-sized Elvis fanatic from Wigan was All Shook Up when he was told he was too young to watch a performance by one of the world's best impersonators of the King of Rock 'n' Roll.
But now five-year-old Dylan Bowen from Lowton is to get his own private
gig to see Elvin Priestley.
Dylan was going to be taken by his mother, Jayne, and stepfather, Paul Bradbury, to see Elvin perform hits such as Jailhouse Rock and Love Me Tender at Manchester's Rockhouse Hotel on New Year's Eve.
But Jayne and Paul were then told Dylan would have to stay at home because it is a strictly over-21s event.
Jayne, from Thornfield Close, said: "We were so disappointed for Dylan
as he had been looking forward to going from the moment we mentioned the show to him.
"He is obsessed with Elvis and always loves to see performers up on stage singing the songs he loves so much."
The couple pleaded with Gary Jones, licensee of The Rockhouse Hotel, for Dylan to see Elvin perform.
And Gary was so impressed with the Lowton West Primary School pupil's love for the King he has arranged for Elvin to perform especially for Dylan at the venue tomorrow afternoon.
Gary said: "I was taken back when Paul told me that Dylan has two Elvis-inspired stage suits, wears a trademark gold chain and knows the lyrics to up to 60 of Elvis's best known hits.
"A duet may even be on the cards when Dylan comes face to face with Elvin."
Despite being diagnosed with a spinal cord disorder since birth which makes standing up difficult for Dylan, that doesn't ever stop him from rock 'n' rolling.
This summer he courageously performed in front of a packed audience at the Starlight bar in Tyldesley.
Paul said: "We had all gone to see an Elvis impersonator who, in the middle of his performance, approached Dylan with his microphone.
"Dylan then burst into song; everybody loved him.
"Researchers from The Paul O'Grady show have come to visit us so he maybe appearing on TV very soon.
"All he ever dreams about is being on stage in Vegas singing his hero's timeless classics as the world's best Elvis impersonator.
"We believe he can one day make his dreams come true."
