Recent interview with Dr. Nick to promote his new book:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4wiJIN59gM&feature=related

Personally I think a lot of Elvis' other Doctors should have been prosecuted and that Dr. Nick was rather unfairly made a scapegoat.
I feel out of all the Doctors, he was perhaps the one who genuinely cared the most for Elvis- after all, it was Dr. Nick who would often give Elvis placebos and who encouraged him to go into Hospital to detox.

I have always wondered why in the official 1994 re-examination of the autopsy, the report mentioned that not one drug in his system was singly responsible for Elvis' death. But interestingly, it does not mention anything about how the combinations of these medicines might have contributed to his death...

Maybe someone can shed some light on this? And should Dr. Nick have brought out this book? Do you think the world need another book on Elvis' death?

Jasper,
I think you have in your first paragraph, without knowing it, gave the answer as to why Dr Nick is bringing out his book.

Fans like yourself and I, know how much Dr Nick loved Elvis and tried as much as he could to stop Elvis from taking as much medication as he did and there were other Doctors as you have said, who didnt care much about the human side of Elvis as Dr Nick did.

There are so many fans of Elvis who appear ignorant with the hatefulness they have over Dr Nick who quite obviously dont really know about the first thing of his friendship with Elvis.

Twenty years ago i was one of those fans who thought Dr Nick was a bad person in Elvis' life who gave him countless amounts of prescribed medication and after finding out so much information on all aspects of Elvis' life now feel this was a man who really cared for Elvis.
I was lucky enough to met Dr Nick in Memphis last year in Vernon's old house at the back of Graceland and Andrew Hearn asked me to 'look after' Dr Nick which i did with great pleasure so i got the chance to sit down with him and he talked about certain things and i felt he was a very frail old man who still wants to give his side of the story to the Elvis world cause he feels there are a number of fans who are blinded by ignorance and still think he is somewhat partly to blame for Elvis' early demise.

This is his chance to have his say.

Im looking forward to getting this book.

Hi Sean,
That was such a good answer and the way you put it as well- that this is his chance to have his say- that made sense!

I'll be getting this book too- if it's a USA only book I will get it ordered.

I wanted to get a good discussion going so that's why I aksed "do we need this book". If you think how long it's been since 1977, and this is Dr. Nick's first book- when people like the Stanleys were pushing out their rubbish every few years!

I think that says a lot about the difference in characters of those who were around Elvis.

I don't think we all have enough debates on this board so I like to try to kickstart a healthy discussion especially when there has been a new development or any new film has emerged- like with that Larry Kolb video which has only recently surfaced on YouTube. (BTW MALCOLM here's the link mate https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKVrISOwGqI )

Cheers! JR.

Yes, this book will be an essential read to anyone who wants to know things about the true facts of the last 10 years of Elvis' personal life.

The has been so much rubbish written about Elvis since he passed away its great to get a book from someone like Dr Nick who was as close to Elvis as anyone could have got, especially in his final years.

I think the term' Never judge a book by its cover', is quite an appropriate term for this release.

Back to Dr Nick, I'm one who doesn't direct any blame his way for Elvis' death. I do however think he's very naive if he thinks we buy into some of his explanations about the prescribing of medications for Elvis and his staff. Dr's in my experience are useully credited with some intelligence and some statements he makes just don't sit well with me. He mentions time and again that he was happy with what he was giving Elvis, because he knew it was for persons other than Elvis....is that legal? Also, that he was unaware and not in control of any other medications Elvis was receiving from other doctors, again, is it not his place to know if Elvis was being medicated by another doctor and at least communicate there findings, diagnosis and treatment.

I also find it very distasteful when people close to Elvis auction off the gifts he gave them. If it were me, I'd never part with a single item, not ever!!!
