Elvis fan Dick Smith coming for festival

Mr Smith, a keen Elvis fan, has been contemplating coming to Parkes for the annual event for several years, but has not been in a position to make the pilgrimmage.

However, this year he will arrive in his helicopter, accompanied by his wife, Pip, and possibly his good friend, Ian (Macca) McNamara (of the ABC Radio programme, Australia All Over) and his partner, Lee.

If Macca does attend, it is anticipated he will bring his well travelled microphone to record items for when he resumes his popular Sunday morning show later this month.

Mr Smith will fly in tomorrow morning and is particularly keen to enjoy the street parade.

He is looking to maintain a low profile during his visit and simply wishes to enjoy the festival, of which he has heard so much about.

Parkes Tourism Manager, Kelly Hendry has been run off her feet with inquiries for the past week, but said word that Mr Smith was finally able to make the festival ‘made my day.’
