| LAPEER - Leo Days and His Majesty's Showband will perform a "Tribute to Elvis" from 7-10 p.m. May 3 at the Lapeer Center Building in Lapeer, Michigan.
This event is a special fundraiser for the Lapeer Center Building, a non-profit, community-run facility opened more than 50 years ago. The building, which was built to serve youth and other community groups, is administered by a volunteer board of directors representing local, community-based, service organizations and interested individuals, and managed by a full-time building manager.
It is maintained and improved without government support, and is now undertaking major energy savings building improvements. The building will stay open while the improvements are taking place.
"We are working on an energy conservation project that has been ongoing since last year," said Cathy Carter, manager of the Lapeer Center Building. "The building needs new air-conditioning, new heating, water...everything. We're hoping the "Tribute to Elvis" show will help with the funding."
"Many people have told me it is a phenomenal show," Carter said. "People from Connecticut, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Indiana have called me to get tickets. It's obvious Leo has fans all over the U.S."
Leo Days was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on Oct. 3, 1980. He became an avid fan of Elvis Presley when he was just three years old. At the age of 15, he discovered he had real talent and soon began singing at various karaoke clubs. In 1996, after entering a talent contest at the Genesee County Fair where he won first place, Leo started performing his "In Honor of Elvis" tribute shows.
Days was the 2003 Michigan Bluebird Country Magazine Entertainer of The Year, and he took first place overall in the Peoples Choice Contest in Portage, IN in 2001. Days also won first place in the "Images of Elvis" contest held in Grand Rapids on March 6, 1999.
He has performed more than 600 shows and has opened for various headliners, including The Drifters, Herman's Hermits, and Paul Revere & The Raiders. His knowledge and love for Elvis is apparent in every performance.
Days has also won many talent contests, and he continues to help organize and perform for numerous fund-raising events for various non-profit organizations, including the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and the Red Cross.
Those who wish to attend this special event will hear a variety of old and new favorites ranging from "That's All Right, Mama" to "Trilogy" and "My Way."
When asked if they are anticipating a big turnout, Carter said they have lots of seating and are hoping for an estimated 450 people to attend the show. "It's a family show," she said. "People of all ages are welcome to attend."
Tickets are only $20 per person and include hors d'oeuvres. A cash bar will also be available.
Tickets may be purchased in advance by calling (810) 664-2109, or are available at any branch of Lapeer County Bank & Trust. | |
