Tom Jones tried to reach out to Elvis?

Ive heard on a number of occasions that Tom Jones said he was contacted by Elvis's body guards-Sonny West and one or two others and asked him to contact Elvis and try to help him!
They knew he was in a lot of trouble, but knew because of their book, they couldn't see him. Tom Jones said he called Elvis several times, but never could get through to him.

I dont know... where Elvis and Tom Jones that close? If this is true what could have old Jonsey boy have said to make a difference?
And if it is true why could he not get through, who was stopping him talk to Elvis or did Elvis not want to talk to him at all?

I think I remember Lamar Fike saying that they were not big friends. It's a bit like this Cliff Richard thing again where everyone would have loved to have been his best friend, and after he died they try to embellish things. I think it says a lot that Elvis could have struck up a friendship with anyone in the world but he was more comfortable with the company of family and his old friends. When he was in Hollywood, he certainly did'nt do all the usual showbiz parties, clubs etc.
Elvis was a very genuine person and did'nt want to be friends with someone just because they were a celebrity too..

Tom Jones and Elvis were not as close as some think but they were friends and respected each other.

Elvis never gatecrashed Tom's show's but was always made welcome to see Tom and a few times was invited up on stage with Tom.

So do you guys think that Elvis would have listened to Tom about his drug abuse? I think he would have told him to sod off tbh
