TUPELO - Downtown will bubble over with all things Elvis Presley from Thursday to Sunday, June 8.
The 2008 Elvis Presley Festival will include favorite events from past years, such as the Elvis Look-a-Like Pet Parade, and new events, such as the XBOX 360 "Guitar Hero III" Tournament.
The fun will begin on Thursday with the Elvis Festival Carnival Midway, and $15 armbands will be available from 6 to 11 p.m. Thursday and 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday.
Musical variety The music will overflow during the event that celebrates the King of Rock n' Roll. Crossin Dixon will headline the Fairpark Stage on Friday, with Jo Dee Messina taking the top spot on Saturday.
The Lyric Theatre will host the Tupelo Ultimate Tribute Artist competition on Friday and Saturday, then the finals will move to Fairpark Stage for a Saturday night concert that includes past competition winners, as well as Elvis collaborators, the Sweet Inspirations and D.J. Fontana.
The Lyric Theatre isn't finished because it'll feature a concert by Ronnie McDowell at 7 p.m. Friday. McDowell has provided the voice of Elvis for numerous TV shows and movies.
The music will go on with: Sonny Burgess and the Pacers, Bliss, Tim Warren, Jonathan Singleton and the Grove, John Milstead, Saving Abel, Refuse The Fall, Braden Gray and Loose Gravel, South of Sanity, Jamie Davis and Soul Gravy, Velvet Jones, Zachery Stone and many more.
On Sunday, June 8, First United Methodist Church in Tupelo will feature a gospel concert with The Foyer Boyz, The Landmarks and The Stamps.
Take part If you want to take part in the action, you're welcome to join the Elvis Presley Parade, the Running with the King 5K and the 2008 Fling with the King disc golf tournament.
It's festival time, so get out there and have some fun.
