Elvis returns to Wasaga Beach

The Collingwood Elvis Festival is returning to the Wasaga Beach RecPlex this month.

Elvis tribute artist Gino Monopoli will play the RecPlex on Sat., July 28 as part of the festival, in what organizers say will be a Vegas-style show.

Last year, the festival expanded into Wasaga Beach, bringing in Gino Monopoli. The show sold just under 600 tickets, said festival manager Rosemarie O'Brien.

Because the festival board opted not to hold the Wasaga Beach show this year, Wasaga Beach residents Ralph O'Brien and John Curtosi are putting on the concert.

"[We are] thrilled that Gino Monopoli will be back again this year for the 2008 Collingwood Elvis Festival. Gino's performance at the RecPlex last year was a huge success and plans for this year are shaping up for a bigger and better performance," said Mayor Cal Patterson speaking on behalf of council.

Monopoli first made his appearance at the Collingwood Elvis Festival in 1998 and was crowned the Collingwood Elvis Festival Champion in 2003. This year he will be performing "Elvis... His Life in Music" featuring Geri and the Coasters.
