Elvis, not diamonds, was a girl's best friend when Paula Rawlings and Guy Tucker staged their very own fancy dress wedding on Saturday.

The couple, from Middleton Cheney, made an unusual sight as they said their vows at Bodicote House, near Banbury.

The bride, 51, arrived dressed as Marilyn Monroe, complete with a billowing white dress made famous in the film The Seven Year Itch.

Meanwhile, the groom, Guy, 49, said: "Uh huh, I do" wearing a rhinestone-encrusted white jumpsuit and three-inch platform heels, reminiscent of the King in his pomp.

The unusual nuptials were witnessed by an 80-strong audience of guests, which even included Batman, Ali G and a giant banana.

And the two registrars presiding over the occasion joined in the spirit by wearing tiaras.

Afterwards the new Mrs Tucker (aka Marilyn Monroe) said: "Guy and I have both been married before and decided this time round we just wanted it to be fun.

"The fancy dress theme was perfect and we were thrilled when all our friends and family really embraced the idea."

The couple, who also held a Grease-themed joint hen and stag night, met at work two years ago.

They bought their wedding outfits on the internet auction website Ebay for £50 each and walked into their wedding ceremony to the sound of I want to be Loved by You (also from the film The Seven Year Itch).

The ceremony was followed by a reception at Middleton Cheney Village Hall.

They are now off to Cyprus for a week’s honeymoon.

Earlier this month, the Oxford Mail revealed how Jean and Jack Knight, of Sandford Lane in Kennington, said their love of the King had kept their marriage going for 50 years.

The couple, who have four sons, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on September 13.

They have made pilgrimages to Elvis's home Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee, five times.

They were also among the thousands that gathered there 10 years ago to commemorate the 20th anniversary of his death.

They have also visited Hawaii three times — and even stayed at the hotel where the King filmed Blue Hawaii in 1961.

Deciding which one of Elvis's songs is their favourite caused a little tension, however. Mr Knight's favourite is Can't Help Falling in Love, while Mrs Knight's is Loving You.
