| ahh Garry 2 of my faves as well, Chris is clsoe friends with Pete, not only is he a very very talented guy he is a really nice person to boot!! JLM well i just think he is awesome, I loved his voice from first time i heard him, he is superb! And of course I am hoping my Chris will do well not just because he is my boyfriend but because he has an amazing voice and puts on a great show and has worked extremely hard this last year. Mine and Chris wish I think would be to just put on a good show for those 2 songs Its hard sometimes I think to show what you can do in just 2 songs, but I know if chris does them as well as he can we will be happy and content with that but... if my lil hunk of burning love got a chance to sing some extra songs with the band. Then would be made up and probably get totally totally slozzled!!! hic hic |

| Yes I agree to get to the next round is a big achievement and to be able to sing with red Alert a big prize in itself my Chris has never sung with a band yet, which is a shame cos i think its something all you ETAs aspire to do Its really strange cos I actually know an awesome group of musicians, but they are younger generation and Elvis isnt exactly their thing - but i am working on it hehe |

| Predictions?????? Isn't it all fixed? It's not so much to do with voice....the criteria seems open to interpretation. If you look like a skinny Elvis, could you stand on the stage and pick your nose for 10 minutes and get placed, no probs? My reason for this ridiculous suggestion...first time i ever attended any Elvis eta comp/ convention was the Euros , 2 years ago. There was a late entry...Trent Carlini...(Shhhh...don't mention I said his name)..everyone i spoke to seemed really peeved that he was allowed to ignore deadline dates, get into a decent heat, and get first place before he had even turned up. I hadn't a clue who any of the etas were, so I was starting from scratch. I heard some stories about him, but it did not affect my judgement of him as a contestant.I didn't believe the guys when they told me that he would win, that it was a waste of time and money for all other contestants. Even in the bar, contestants were moaning that he didn't even want to lower himself to have a drink with them. I had a chat with Trent...regular little charmer he was! Played the "i appreciate my fans" game brilliantly! So this year, no longer an innocent , I don't care who wins, or reaches the final. I enjoy the event immensely, and most of the etas i met were lovely guys and genuine Elvis fans. It's nice for the etas if they progress, but not important. Outside of these comps, no-one knows or cares who any of the etas are. The comp is great fun for us all, but should never be taken too seriously. I always do my own judging sheets, and I always get it horribly wrong at The Euros! Although Trent's side profile made me weak at the knees, silly me had Chris Connor in first place 2 years ago! I know better now, of course! ... go off looks! I am gonna go and have fun, appreciate the competitors efforts, do some jammin, celebrate the birthday, and drink the bar dry with my friends! | |

| I disagree Sharrie that 'Outside of these comps, no-one knows or cares who any of the etas are', we all care who the ETA's are outside the comps. This forum is a testimony to that, we all support one another and see other ETA's shows when we can. I dont think everyone who goes to the comp doesnt care outside of it. I know that there was a few I would go and see their own show after seeing them in the competition or even if they were not in the comp. I think it is probably important to the ETA themself that they progress through the heats and maybe win. As for the comp being fixed, I dont feel that it is, we all know about the thing with Trent but as we dont organise it, it is not for us to say. As for drinking the bar dry, we will there drinking it dry with you | |

| Hi. Yes, I didn't make it very clear... I should have said non-Elvis fans, or non-eta fans! Sorry! I have been a rebellious little Elvis fan since I was 3, and knew nothing about etas until 2 years ago! Blackpool was my first experience of it. It was an eye opener, watching how it all operates. I pick things up very quickly. As for it being important to etas, I guess it is a personal thing to them whether they care or not how far they progress. I have not forgotten what happened with the judging last year either, whereby, due to a "technical" fault, the voting came down to the biggest cheers in the hall...so if you brought a coachload of family members/fans, you stood a fair chance. Does anybody know how it is being judged this year? So long as it is fair, I really don't mind who wins. | |

So did a few.... but luckily Chris has been successful without winning....Actually he got known a lot more because sooo many were talking about it and him. He put is all in for the competition and of course questioned his talent after that year, but only for a short time.... but entering a competition of course puts you in this situation.... And I for one am very glad that we just now go to enjoy the weekend, because the turmoil of feeling sick waiting for the results I hated, and then the disbelief and emotion after was worse. Actually last year so many asked if Chris would sing or perform that we asked to be put him on reserve list, to make the fans happy, however they couldn't squeeze him in. (which I was relieved with when we actually got there - as it meant I could completely relax. (Chris didn't as much as he must have been asked a hundred times why he was not singing!) lol!! So we will be there to enjoy the mixing with fans and eta's, and supporting those in the comp. | |

| My advice to all contestants for what it's worth! I have taken part in The Euros since 2004. All ETA's out there are at different stages of their career, have different skills and talents and are all making their own way through this particular type of entertainment. Some are gigging 3 or four times a week others more and other less. The important thing is to completely seperate the taking part in the Euros from what you do week in and week out. In the contest you are allowed about 8 minutes to make an impression (pardon the pun) and some guys are very good at that and others are not as comfortable. I'm sure there are many excellent ETA's who provide a creditable show throughout the year but never make the finals of the contest. The real trick is to watch other guys and take out of the weekend the things that you can use to enhance your own show - whether that is a small connutation of a word sang in a song or a move or even a bit of banter with the audience - use it all, if you can, in your own show in the coming year. A couple of years ago I didn't make the final 15 and I was gutted - maybe I tried a bit too hard and was too needy - I came back the following year with an entirely different attitude, got to the finals and had a great weekend! I concentrated far more on other things than just worrying the whole weekend about the competition. Chris Conner is a superb example of what I'm trying to say. I know that he and Lisa were disappointed that he did not get a place a couple of years back - but look at what he has done since. It really brings home the point that no one should leave the contest down and out if they did not do as well as they thought they would. The real winners are those guys who can pick themselves up, dusk themselves off, learn from the experience and use it to their advantage in the own performances. You cannot buy that sort of experience. So, in essense, my advice is to not take the contest too seriously, enjoy your moment, learn from others and... there was one other thing...oh yes get completely rat arsed! See you there Neil J Duncan | |
